Uninvited Guest

We have an uninvited guest in our home. It decided to take up residence in Daerik's room. We have no idea how long it has been there, but Tuesday morning we discovered sign's of it's inhabitance (is that even a word?). Daerik came downstairs with a large red bump on his shin. Throughout the day this red bump metamorphosed into about the size of a silver dollar and swelled to larger than a baseball in diameter. At this point I decided to take a closer look. I counted more than seven, get that, seven puncture marks within a dime sized area.

A quick trip to the doctor and some ointment later his bite, or should I say bites, were looking a bit better.

Next day...Daerik came downstairs again with two more bites, one on his arm and the other on his head. The arm swollen even larger than the shin, even though it was just one bite. Soon it swelled his arm to twice it's size. We put on the ointment and went to bed. The next day dawns with less swelling but a red rash around the bite about the size of...well...let's just say it is bigger than a baseball and what looks like a bruise above the bite. Another trip to the doctor revealed blood poisoning. Just heartbreaking seeing this on my son. Luckily we have doctors and medicine that can help with these things. Ten days of medicine should do the trick, but not before he has already suffered a few days of intense itching and swelling.

Next up, eterminator!

Do they know what bit him? Is it a spider? Yuck! No fun finding bites on your little one - and blood poisoning...wow! Good luck kicking the uninvited guest out! :) (We use Termimix - if you keep seeing bugs, they will keep coming out to spray, at no charge - that's why I like them.)
